Biodynamic Tea Special At Manny’s SF

I’ll try anything once, and this biodynamic turmeric cinnamon tea was delicious. Add that it was on sale, deal cinched!

At Manny’s, a leftist coffee shop in the Mission district of San Francisco.

What the hek is biodynamic? In a nutshell, it means sustainably farmed in a way that improves the environment, as opposed to traditional farming, which depletes the environment.

Ummmm, turmeric. tea. really? Yes, really. Turmeric is in most Indian curries, and it’s also in American style yellow mustard. In just the right amounts, it gives a kick and zing to the flavor. Health benefits include anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-alzheimer’s effects. There’s cinnamon to balance the spices, and according to author Isabelle Allende it increases sexual desire!

From the Republic Of Tea:

Harvested from self-sustaining ecological farms in Sri Lanka, this turmeric tea is made with earthy, full-bodied spices. A healthy answer to inflammation*, this turmeric blend is delicious served hot or cold. This tea is Certified Gluten Free, Certified Organic by the USDA, Non-GMO Project Verified, Demeter Certified Biodynamic, Kosher, Sugar Free, and Carb Free. Each cup of this herbal tea is naturally caffeine-free. Packaged in a specially-designed air-tight tin, this pack contains 36 of The Republic of Tea’s signature round, unbleached tea bags, free of unnecessary envelopes, strings, tags or staples.

Philz China Basin

Philz is on the corner of 4th St. and Berry in what was once China Basin, a small muddy fishing hole and occasional small fishing boat dock, out by the SF Giants ballpark.

It’s now quite developed into multi-story office, and research facilities. The area is bustling with attractive young tech and biotech workers, and as usual there is a line out the door at Philz.

Fortunately, because of tech, I can order my coffee through the Philz app on my phone, it’ll be ready and waiting with my name on it! Cut in front of the line, grab and go, don’t even have to deal with a human being at the cash register.

I’m all the way out here because I have an appointment at one of these biotech research facilities. I’m going to be a guinea pig. They’re going to stick a big long needle in my arm and inject dye into my veins. Then I’ll be strapped by the head so that I can’t move into an MRI machine for 30 minutes. They’re testing some new kind of dye. And I’m getting paid! It’s a research study and my prize is a $40 Amazon gift certificate. Wish me luck!

Rick Gerharter’s Work Is At Oakland Ca Museum

Rick Gerharter (left) with yours truly, Jim James (right). Here we are in front of Rick’s photographs at the Oakland Museum’s new show: “Queer California: Untold Stories” from April 13 to August 11, 2019.

Rick has earned his place in history as a photojournalist, documenting decades of struggles and triumphs for the San Francisco Bay Area Reporter, the preeminent gay community news organization.

The museum donor’s preview event Thursday was packed with VIP’s. Afterwards, we escaped to Huangcheng Noodle House on Webster and 8th St. in Chinatown. The Chinese potato salad appetizer was a delightful adventure in newness for us. Shredded, blanched and then cooled potatoes drenched in a sesame oil green onion light curry spiced vinaigrette.

A gigantic, rich, savory bowl of shaken beef noodle soup. It was so good I almost didn’t even notice my pal Rick’s fashion forward camera print shirt. He really is a dedicated Shutterbug!

During those rare moments when either of us Chatty Cathys had nothing to gossip about, there was the ubiquitous gigantic flat screen television off in the corner, featuring the Cat Channel!

Uncle Dave At Jolene’s

There’s Uncle Dave stepping out to make a phone call, since the phone booths have stopped working long long ago.

This was at a special, top secret, exclusive, VIP, karaoke party at Jolene’s Bar and Restaurant, on 16th and Harrison.

The Elizabeth Taylor 50 Plus group were treated to succulent sliders, hors d’oeuvres, and divine mini fruit and custard tarts.

I hear Jolene’s weekend brunch is not to be missed.
