Swirls Of Raisins And Nothingness

Happy Sunday. It’s turned out to be a pretty nothing day. Being that it is Sunday the day of rest.

I should be wrestling with my MailChimp account and firing off the latest email marketing campaign.

Yet all I can think of is first holy communion Easter raisin bread. Mom used to make it when I was a youngster. We made some in her honor last week on Mother’s day and I can’t get enough of it.

So here’s to cravings, and swirls of raisins and nothingness on Sundays!

Special thanks to Church Street Cafe in SF for the perfect cup of coffee and raisin swirl for a nothing kind of a day.

We celebrated mother’s day at my brother’s this year. Sis and I baked a couple of loafs in Mom’s honor. Here she is:

Here’s the closest thing I could find recipe wise on YouTube:

Salt And Pepper Nuggets

Vietnamese spices take these chicken nuggets to the next level at the Sweet Hut in Midtown, Atlanta Georgia.

It was difficult resisting all of the gorgeous sweets, cakes, pastries and tarts the bakery is well known for. But because so many people mentioned the nuggets on Yelp, I just had to try them, and was not disappointed.

The place gets very busy in the evenings, but lunch was not too crowded. There was sidewalk seating to enjoy the pleasant spring Atlanta afternoon. And no panhandlers! Take that San Francisco.

Philz China Basin

Philz is on the corner of 4th St. and Berry in what was once China Basin, a small muddy fishing hole and occasional small fishing boat dock, out by the SF Giants ballpark.

It’s now quite developed into multi-story office, and research facilities. The area is bustling with attractive young tech and biotech workers, and as usual there is a line out the door at Philz.

Fortunately, because of tech, I can order my coffee through the Philz app on my phone, it’ll be ready and waiting with my name on it! Cut in front of the line, grab and go, don’t even have to deal with a human being at the cash register.

I’m all the way out here because I have an appointment at one of these biotech research facilities. I’m going to be a guinea pig. They’re going to stick a big long needle in my arm and inject dye into my veins. Then I’ll be strapped by the head so that I can’t move into an MRI machine for 30 minutes. They’re testing some new kind of dye. And I’m getting paid! It’s a research study and my prize is a $40 Amazon gift certificate. Wish me luck!
